Luxury Watch Roundup: Rolex’s Bold Moves, Statement Suits & Sporty Watch Moments
Power suits, power watches, and power plays. Here's a rearview peek at standout moments from February.
Blink and you’ll miss it—March is officially here and the first quarter of 2025 is nearly done. Time is flying, and with everything happening in the news fashion, watches, and pop culture, the months feel even faster. But before we get too caught up in what’s ahead, let’s take a moment to appreciate February.
And since we’re deep in Pisces season—happy birthday to me and my fellow Pisceans! We’re the dreamers, the creatives, the ones adding a little extra magic to the world. Here’s to another year of making waves 🐟✨ Now, let’s dive into my standout watch moments from last month.
Awards Season & Menswear On The Ladies
Fashion Week and awards season were in full swing, but Janelle Monáe at the Grammys? A moment. She rocked a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph with a sharp, menswear-inspired look—proof that a big, bold watch can still have a feminine edge when styled right. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I cannot wait for this year’s Met Gala! With its Black Dandyism theme celebrating fine tailoring in Black diasporan fashion, it’s going to be a feast for the eyes.

Janelle’s look set the tone, and we’re seeing menswear thrive on the red carpet in multiple ways this year—Cynthia Erivo, Nicole Kidman, Ayo Edebiri, Kate Winslet and even Oprah are making powerful statements. Now’s the time for watch brands to tap stylists and go all in on women and accessories. Give us oversized, tiny, vintage, high-jewelry, avant-garde—I’m ready for it all!
Rolex: Big Moves & Bold Cuts
February was a busy month for Rolex. Shut down Carl F. Bucherer. Check. Signed. Leonardo DiCaprio as a brand ambassador. Check. Got a five-hour deep dive on Acquired (its second most-listened-to episode ever). Triple check.
If you don’t have five hours to spare, here’s the gist: Rolex has mastered the art of being both mass-market and exclusive. Precision, secrecy, prestige—it’s aspirational at scale. The key ingredients for me? Ambassadors and cultural relevance. Enter Leo. Rolex dubbed him a “Hollywood icon and climate champion”—a strategic nod to sustainability, a value both Leo and Rolex actively champion. With Gen Z prioritizing eco-conscious luxury, this move reinforces their shared commitment to a greener future while appealing to one of the most influential emerging consumer groups. Rolex has a knack for keeping that effortlessly cool “I made it” energy alive, consistently aligning with winners—no matter the field.
But while Rolex adds names, it’s also cutting ties—shutting down Carl F. Bucherer, ending a 137-year legacy. After acquiring Bucherer AG in 2023, Rolex is streamlining, which means saying goodbye to a brand that helped shape women’s watchmaking. Founded in 1888 by Carl-Friedrich Bucherer and his wife Louise, the brand expanded globally with the help of their son, Carl Eduard and his wife, Wilhelmina Bucherer-Heeb. A sharp businesswoman, she played a key role in its success—until her life was tragically cut short in a shipwreck. To honor her, Carl F. Bucherer released a 2005 tribute watch inspired by its first women’s wristwatch from 1919.

This wasn’t a brand that just included women’s watches—it prioritized them. From launching its first ladies’ collection in 1919 to standout lines like Pathos (a fusion of watchmaking and jewelry) and Alacria (a tribute to bold femininity), Carl F. Bucherer was committed to exceptional timepieces for women. If you’re a vintage watch girlie, you’ll find pre-loved versions of their catalog floating around the web for anything from a few hundred bucks to around $20K. Range baby, we love to see it!
Watch-Spotting Highlights
Can we talk about how stunning Nigerian songbird Tems looked in London? I live for a good watch-spotting moment! In February, all 10 Formula 1 teams unveiled their 2025 liveries (aka the paint scheme and design of their new cars) at The O2 last month, but Tems stole the show during Aston Martin’s reveal with a breathtaking performance. And naturally, she ate—grace, presence, and a flawless watch to match. She looked angelic, rocking the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades in Moonshine Gold. And listen, I will not be shutting up about the F1 this year. So if someone wants to make my F1 dreams come true, just say the word. I’m a size “window seat and balcony view” and my bags are already packed! Interestingly, Aston Martin’s official watch partner is Girard-Perregaux. I did find it a bit surprising that they didn’t put one of their watches on her wrist as well. But hey, maybe next time? They did, however, unveil a new titanium sports watch with an iridescent dial that shifts between green and orange depending on the light. I haven’t seen it in person yet, but it looks very cool. Meanwhile, Los Angeles’ very own, Serena Williams, flexed an Audemars Piguet Code 11:59 Tourbillon Openworked at Super Bowl LIX. An iconic moment. She famously crip-walked during Kendrick Lamar’s performance and absolutely bodied it!

I’ve yapped for quite a bit now, but before I go—keep an eye on my Instagram for more real-time watch spotting. As we step into March, British Watchmakers' Day lands on March 8, and it’s also International Women’s Day. Plus, Watches and Wonders (aka the watch ‘World Cup’) is so close I can practically taste it. I’ll be tracking the predictions, the early drops, and everything in between. Until then, TTFN!
